Description

Ancient oak tree sited nearby Broad Oak Lane which gave rise to the lane and farm name. Exact location unknown. This photo is courtesy of Terry Mitchell and from his collection of old Mobberley photographs. This same image could have been used by Stephen Murray when compiling his second manuscript (see link below) in which he dates the photo at 1906 and that the tree was accidentally destroyed by fire in 1910.
Joan Leach believes that the fire was initially set to clear an infestation of rats but got out of hand.
