At grass routes level we have the Parish Council. This is non party political and councillors are recruited from village members.

The next tier is party oriented.
The scene in Cheshire changed on 1st April, 2009 with the creation of Cheshire East Council unitary authority from Macclesfield, Congleton, Crew and Nantwich Borough Councils and Cheshire County Council with headquarters at Westfields, Middlewich Road, Sandbach, CW11 1HZ.
